Container Growing Essential
Always grow in containers — spearmint spreads by runners and will colonise a garden bed rapidly. For podina chutney: harvest young tender leaves from the top 3–4 inches for the best flavour. Cut back hard after flowering to trigger a fresh flush of leaves.

Spear Mint (Pudina) Seeds – Classic Refreshing Herb

Grow Spearmint — the classic sweet mint with a gentle, refreshing flavour that is milder and more rounded than peppermint. The preferred cooking mint for podina chutney, raita, mint rice, lamb dishes, and cold drinks. Better than peppermint for cooking as it doesn’t overpower food with menthol. Prolific, easy, and fragrant throughout Pakistan’s cool season.

How To Grow

Surface sow Spearmint seeds on moist seed-starting mix — light aids germination. Keep at 10–20°C; germination in 10–16 days. Grow in containers to prevent invasive spreading. Spearmint (Mentha spicata) has a sweeter, milder, less menthol-intense flavour than peppermint — the classic mint for mojitos, mint juleps, and Pakistani mint chutney. More tolerant of cooking heat than peppermint, making it the preferred cooking mint.
