This historic variety has been grown in gardens since the 1600s and remains one of the most sought-after hollyhocks for its almost-black flowers that contrast beautifully with brighter blooms.

Growing in Pakistan
Hollyhocks are a cool-season cottage flower in Pakistan. For Punjab and most plain regions, sow from September–November; plants establish through winter and bloom from February–May before summer heat sets in. In cooler northern and hilly areas (Murree, Swat, Hunza, Quetta), sowing can extend into February–March. Provide full sun, deep watering at the base, and good airflow to prevent rust on the leaves. Hollyhocks do not tolerate prolonged 40°C+ heat, so time your sowing to bloom before peak summer.
