Vegetable Growing Questions
From October to November the plains are perfect for winter crops — carrot, radish, turnip, spinach, peas, cauliflower, cabbage, lettuce and onion. Browse winter vegetable seeds or check any crop in the sowing calendar above.
Yes. Tomatoes, chillies, brinjal, spinach, lettuce and radish all grow well in containers. Use grow bags or pots at least 30 cm deep, fill them with a light potting mix, and give them 5–6 hours of sun.
Heirloom (open-pollinated) seeds keep their flavour and you can save seeds from your harvest to sow again. Hybrid (F1) seeds give higher, more uniform yields but won't grow true from saved seed. Try our heirloom tomato seeds for the best taste.
A simple rule: sow seeds 2–3 times as deep as the seed is wide. Tiny seeds like lettuce, tomato and chilli go just under the surface — start them in seedling trays — while peas, beans and okra go about 2–3 cm deep straight in the bed.
Water deeply when the top 2–3 cm of soil feels dry — usually every 2–3 days in winter and daily in peak summer. Mix compost in before sowing, then feed every 2–3 weeks once plants are growing. See our fertilizers & nutrients.
That's 'legginess' — the seedlings are stretching for light. Move them to a brighter spot (at least 6 hours of direct sun), avoid overwatering, and sow a little thinner next time. Questions? WhatsApp us and our team will help.
