How To Grow

Sow Jalapeño seeds 1/4 inch deep in moist seed-starting mix. Keep at 25–30°C for 10–21 days. Start indoors 8–10 weeks before transplanting. Transplant when seedlings have 5–7 true leaves, spacing 15–18 inches apart. Jalapeño produces compact 5–8 cm thick-walled green pods with a classic medium heat (2,500–8,000 SHU). Harvest green for maximum crunch and flavour. Picked red, they are sweeter and hotter. When smoked and dried, jalapeños become chipotle — a completely different flavour profile.
