Grow your own Liquorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra), known in Pakistan as Mulethi (ملٹھی), a hardy perennial herb prized for its naturally sweet, aromatic root used in herbal infusions and traditional remedies.
A Long-Lived Medicinal Root Crop for Your Garden!
Liquorice is a tall perennial reaching 1.5–2 m, with a woody base that sends up fresh growth every spring. Bunches of violet-blue, pea-like flowers appear in the leaf axils in summer. The valuable part is the root, which is dug in autumn as the leaves turn yellow and fall, starting from the third year after sowing. Dried root slices make a sweet, scented tea.
