What is Urban Gardening?
The practice of growing plants in an urban environment is called urban gardening. It can start with small pots, containers, or growing bags on your terrace or a small garden. You can start your urban garden by planting vegetables and herbs even in a small space. Several vegetables take less space and are easy to grow in your urban garden. Listed below:
1-Tomatoes: Some tomatoes varieties can be grown easily in pots or containers which is 20*18 inches in size. Place it in the sunny spot and water regularly. Plant only 1 tomato plant in each container or pot. 2-Capsicum: Capsicum also need large sized container for easy grow. Place it in the sunny spot where it receives 6-8 hours of sunlight daily. Water it regularly and take care of pest attack. 3-Beans: Beans can be grown in small pots and do not requires support for growth. They can easily grow through seeds. Beans requires 3-4 hours of sunlight daily. 4-Brinjal: Brinjal also requires large sized container as tomatoes with proper drainage holes. Place the pot in sunlight (6-8 hours daily). Staked the plant when it grow bigger. 5-Lettuce: Lettuce requires well drained, fertile soil in a small pot. Keep it in a sunny spot (5-6 hours daily). It is easy to grow; harvest the mature leaves. |
6-Radish: Radish can grow easily in large bottles through direct seeds. It is fast growing vegetable crop. Water the pot regularly and keep it in sunny spot. 7-Beetroot: Beetroot is a cool weather annual crop. It can be grown in partial sun. Choose appropriate size of container and keep in sunny spot where it receives indirect sunlight. 8-Coriander: Coriander which is most commonly known as dhania; can grow easily in shallow pots. Sow coriander seeds directly in pots and water it regularly. 9-Peppermint: As compared to other herbs peppermint takes long time to grow. Sow the seeds in medium sized pot and keep in direct sunlight for full grow. 10-Lemon Balm: Lemon balm is another herb that is easy to grow in pots. It is well-known for its medicinal properties. Lemon balm loves well-drained, sandy soils. |
