Soil Tip
Gypsophila is famously fussy about wet roots but flexible about everything else. Excellent drainage and slightly alkaline soil (pH 7–7.5) are key. Add lime to acidic soils. Tolerates poor, rocky soil better than rich moist conditions.

How To Grow

Sow Gypsophila seeds shallowly (1/8 inch) in well-drained soil. Avoid heavy clay or wet conditions. Keep moist for 10–14 days at 18–22°C until germination. Thin to 12–18 inches apart. Gypsophila prefers alkaline soil (pH 7.0–7.5) — add a pinch of lime in acidic soils. Once established, water sparingly. Cut stems just as flowers begin to open for the longest vase life.
