How To Grow
Delicate Cottage-Garden Blooms Surrounded by Misty Foliage
Love-in-a-Mist (Nigella damascena) is an enchanting cool-season annual that produces fully double, intricately petalled flowers in a soft mix of blue, pink, white, and purple. Each bloom appears to float within a halo of fine, fern-like “mist” foliage — giving the plant its romantic common name and its prized place in cottage gardens for centuries.
After flowering, the plants form ornamental balloon-shaped seed pods that are equally beautiful in fresh or dried flower arrangements. A true heirloom variety, loved by gardeners worldwide for its effortless charm.

Growing in Pakistan
Love-in-a-Mist is a cool-season flower that thrives in Pakistani winters. For Punjab, Sindh, and most plain regions, sow from September–February; plants flower from February through April before summer heat. In cooler northern hill areas (Murree, Swat, Hunza, Quetta), sow February–April. Nigella does not transplant well — sow directly where you want it to grow. Provide full sun, well-drained soil, and moderate watering. Leave a few seed pods on the plants to enjoy self-seeding the following season.
