How To Grow
The "Burning Bush" — Green in Summer, Red in Autumn
Kochia (Bassia scoparia / formerly Kochia scoparia) is a unique ornamental foliage annual famously called Burning Bush or Summer Cypress. The plants form perfectly round, dense, bushy mounds of fine feathery green foliage all summer — then dramatically turn fiery red, orange, and purple in autumn as temperatures cool. This is grown for its showy foliage, not for flowers.
Heat-loving, drought-tolerant, and naturally self-shaping, Kochia is a striking centrepiece for borders, an effective informal hedge, or a dramatic accent in any Pakistani summer garden — with virtually no maintenance.

Growing in Pakistan
Kochia is a warm-season foliage plant that thrives in Pakistani heat. For Punjab, Sindh, and most plain regions, sow from February–June for lush green summer bushes that turn red in autumn (October–November). In cooler northern hill areas (Murree, Swat, Hunza), sow March–June. Provide full sun and well-drained soil. Kochia is highly drought-tolerant once established — needs only moderate watering. The plants grow naturally into rounded shapes with no pruning needed.
