NASTURTIUM Edible Flower Seeds

Grow Nasturtium — one of the most versatile edible plants in the garden. Vivid orange, yellow, and red flowers with a peppery, watercress-like flavour that transforms salads and cakes. The leaves taste like rocket (arugula). The young green seeds can be pickled as a caper substitute. Almost nothing goes to waste. Thrives in poor soil — actually flowers better in low-nutrient ground. Easy, fast, and completely beginner-friendly.

How To Grow

Soak Nasturtium seeds in warm water for 12 hours before sowing. Direct sow 1/2 inch deep in well-drained, relatively poor soil — rich soil produces too much leaf and too few flowers. Germination in 7–14 days at 15–22°C. Space 10–12 inches apart or allow to trail freely from pots. Nasturtium produces vivid orange, yellow, and red flowers with a peppery watercress-like flavour. The entire plant is edible — flowers, leaves, and young seeds (pickle them as caper substitutes).
