10 Vegetables to Grow in November

  1. Cauliflower

Cauliflower is a leafy vegetable from Brassicaceae family. It is cool season crop need only 5-6 hours of sun daily. You can grow them in growing bags also. Harvesting Tip:

After 100-120 days of planting your crop will be ready for harvest. Cut the head with the sharp knife.

  1. Cabbage

Cabbage is also a member of Brassicaceae family and requires same treatment as cauliflower does. They love well-drained, loamy soil with 6.5 to 7 pH range. Sow the seeds in germination trays and transplant into pots, containers or growing bags. Let them mature enough and harvest them after 2 months.

Harvesting Tip:

It will take 100-120 days for harvesting cabbage from your home garden. Cut the cabbage above the root level with the sharp knife.

  1. Kale

Kale is another leafy vegetable like cabbage but it does not possess head like it. It is a winter crop; grow fastly and rich in nutrition. Kale is more likely to be attacked by aphids and cabbage worms; so you can prepare neem oil spray at home to prevent them.

Kale can be harvested throughout winter season. Remove the older leaves not stem they will regrow and you can get multiple harvests.

  1. Beetroot

Beetroot seeds can be pre-soak before planting. Transplant seeds after 1 month of germination. Beetroot loves well-drained, fertile and moist soil. Keep them in a sunny spot where they receive 5 hours of sun. They can grow well in partial shade. It will mature in 10-12 weeks after planting.

Beetroot leaves are edible too. When mature, harvest it from the ground in a way that roots may not damage.

  1. Kohlrabi

Kohlrabi can be harvested when the bulb is 2-3 inches in diameter. Harvesting at the proper time prevents vegetables from turning tougher. Cut the stem from the base with a knife and then remove the leaves before consuming it.

Broccoli is a cool season vegetable crop and can be grown in spring also. It is mainly use for salads; benefit for health. It grows best in loamy soil and keep them in a sunny spot where they receive 5-7 hours of sunlight. Often add compost in the soil to boost their growth.

Harvesting Tip:

Harvest the broccoli head when it matures. When the head grows greener and firm it means it is ready for harvest.

  1. Lettuce

Lettuce is a leafy vegetable and very easy to grow for beginners. It can be grown in almost every kind of soil but grows exceptionally well in well-drained, aerated and fertile soil. Keep in mind lettuce love sun so keep them in a sunny spot for 5-7 hours. Lettuce matures in 45 days.

Harvesting Tip:

Harvest lettuce early in the morning when they have young and delicate leaves, around 8-10cm. Instead of harvesting lettuce heads, you should pick mature leaves.

  1. Radish

Radish is a cool season root crop. It can be grown in large size plastic bottles or growing bags. It is easy to manage garden crop. It grows best in sandy loam with rich in organic matter; pH ranging from 5.5 to 6.8. Avoid compact soils because it retards the root growth. Overwatering can cause root rot. Grab your radish seeds now and grow them.

Harvesting Tip:

Radish matures within 2 months. Water them fully before harvesting; it will loosen the soil.

  1. Pak Choi

Sow pak choi seeds in loose soil and let them germinate. It will take 7-10 days for seed germination. It can easily grow in pots and containers. Keep them in sunny spot where it will receive 5-7 hours of sunlight. Water them thrice a week and let them grow. Once they reach a particular height harvest them and use them.

Pak Choi can be harvested after 6-8 weeks from sowing. Baby leaves are heady to harvest in 4 weeks while fully mature ones take more time.

  1. Carrot

Carrot is also a root vegetable. Sow carrot seeds in germination tray or directly in pots, containers or plastic bottles. Prefer well-drained, aerated and loamy soil for carrot because their roots need space for growth. Avoid clayey soils, they won’t let roots penetrate in soil.

Harvesting Tip:

It takes 12 to 14 weeks for a carrot to harvest. Fresh root vegetables in a smaller size are tastier and sweeter than the bigger ones. Water the crop before harvesting so that roots cannot be damaged. It will make harvesting easier.
