Grow Broad Beans White-Seeded Early (Fava Beans) — a cool-season legume producing large, thick pods filled with creamy, sweet beans. One of the oldest cultivated vegetables in the world. Completely different from French beans — sow in Pakistan’s cool season (October–January) for a spring harvest. Fresh fava beans are exceptional simply shelled and eaten raw with olive oil and salt, or cooked in curries, rice dishes, and soups.

How To Grow

Direct sow Broad Bean White-Seeded seeds 2 inches deep in cool fertile soil. Germination in 7—14 days at 5—15°C. Space 6–8 inches apart in rows 18 inches apart. Light staking helpful in exposed positions. Broad beans (fava beans) are entirely different from French beans — they are a cool-season crop sown in autumn or very early spring. They produce large, thick pods containing creamy sweet beans inside papery inner skins. Harvest pods young when beans are the size of your thumbnail for the best flavour.
