Heirloom Round Green Gourd (Ghiyya Kadu) Seeds

Grow Heirloom Ghiyya Kadu — the round desi Doodhi gourd beloved in Pakistani cooking for its juicy, tender flesh and mild sweet flavour. Essential for Ghiyya gosht, Doodhi halwa, and light summer curries. Vigorous climbing vines produce abundantly on a trellis through the summer. Homegrown Ghiyya has superior flavour and freshness compared to market gourds. Open-pollinated seeds you can save each year.

How To Grow

Sow Ghiyya Kadu seeds 1/2 inch deep directly in warm fertile soil or start indoors 3–4 weeks before transplanting. Germination in 7—14 days at 25–30°C. Provide a strong trellis or rope for the vigorous vines to climb. Space 24–30 inches apart. Ghiyya produces round, pale green Doodhi-type gourds — smooth-skinned, juicy, and mild-flavoured. Harvest young at 15–20 cm for the best texture in curries and soups.
