Seeds — Common Questions
Pakistan has two main sowing seasons in the plains. Winter (Sep–Nov) suits peas, spinach, carrot, cauliflower, lettuce and flowers like petunia and pansy. Summer (Feb–Apr) suits okra, cucumber, gourds, chillies, zinnia and sunflower. Browse Winter Vegetable Seeds or Summer Vegetable Seeds, or check the Planting Calendar.
Start with fast, forgiving crops: radish, spinach (palak), coriander (dhania), fenugreek (methi), lettuce and marigold. Most sprout within a week and are ready in 4–8 weeks. A Seed Set is an easy way to try several at once.
Yes — herbs, leafy greens, tomatoes, chillies and most flowers grow well in pots and grow bags with 4–6 hours of sun. Use pots with drainage holes and a light potting mix. See Grow Bags and Potting & Soil Media.
Sow small seeds (lettuce, petunia, tomato) in seedling trays first, then transplant at 3–4 true leaves. Large seeds (peas, beans, okra, cucumber) can be sown directly. Keep soil moist, not wet. Our Seedling Trays & Planters make it easier.
Heirloom (open-pollinated) seeds grow true to type, so you can save seeds for next season. F1 hybrids are bred for higher yield, uniformity or disease resistance, but saved seeds won't grow the same. Both are clearly labelled on each product page.
Keep unused seeds in their packet, sealed in a zip bag or airtight jar, in a cool, dry, dark place — away from kitchen heat and humidity. Most seeds stay viable for 1–3 years when stored well.
Seedlings need little at first. Once they have 3–4 true leaves, feed lightly every 2–3 weeks with a balanced water-soluble fertilizer, and add compost to the soil before sowing. Browse Fertilizers & Nutrients.
In KPK north and the Northern Areas, most sowing happens from March to June after frost. Use the region switch in the sowing calendar on this page, or browse the North Sowing – April collection.
